The Thrissur Pooram is upon us and this time the district police is taking care not just about crowd control but also the mahouts and men handling the fireworks. The Times of India reports that the cops will be keeping tabs on them to see if they are high on alcohol as chances of untoward incidents are more if they are not sober. The police plans to check all mahouts and firecracker workers before and after duty with alcometers.

Two hundered mahouts will man 71 elephants over May 1 and 2 and around 40 men will take care of the really loud bursting firecrackers.
