“I have spent my days stringing and unstringing my instrument, while the song I came to sing remains unsung” - Tagore
Yesterday evening, as I was “mother sitting” (my 87 year old mother is recovering from a hip surgery and completely bedridden), my mind wandered restlessly for a topic for my next blog in TSR. I chose to write on Time.
Perceptions of time, its conceptualization vary widely across cultures and between scientists, astronomers, philosophers and religious readers.
In his book “A Brief History of Time”, Stephen Hawking talks of real time and imaginary time. In real time, the universe has a beginning and an end at singularities that form a boundary to space-time and at which the laws of science break down. But in imaginary time, there are no singularities or boundaries.
“Abstract thinking” is not my strength and I do not understand the above theories well.
So here I present some smaller ReInvented Wheels (RIW) of the original “Kalchakra”.
RIW1 - Time is the “Only connect”
Time is the only element that connects animate and inanimate creatures of this Universe. There can be barriers for light, sound, electromagnetic waves, but not for time. Time gets connected always and every where
RIW2 - Useful and wasted times
True Time does not care if events/ activities take place or not between time T1 to time T2, but a man does.
For a man if lots of interesting events take place during a time interval, he feels his time has been usefully spent. On the other hand, if no activities take place during a time interval, he feels that his time has been wasted.
RIW3- Historic time
True Time does not care if a country got its freedom at a particular time of a day, month and year, but a Nation does
“Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially” – the speech by Jawaharlal Nehru, on 14 August 1947 is remembered by every Indian.
RIW4 - Fast and slow movement of time
True Time moves at a regular interval, but a man feels the fast and slow movement of time depending on the situation he is in.
When you are waiting for an important event to happen like the birth of your child, you feel that time seems to be moving rather slowly.
RIW 5 – Time is money
True time has no relationship with any material wealth, but man considers time as his resource.
The new management mantra “Time is money” originated in USA.
RIW 6 – Time and ethics
True time does not bother if a person is present at a particular location, but a man does.
We very often hear bosses say – “You need to value others time; you must be punctual for a meeting”
RIW 7 - Time and astrology
True time does not bother who is born where, but a man does.
The Kalachakra tantra to emphasize the similarities between human beings and the cosmos and the profound connections and interdependencies
RIW 8 – Time and priority
“I just don’t have time”, says a CEO; “We are totally out of time” says the news anchor and uncle TIME may wonder what the above statements mean.
Time management is currently taught in Indian schools and a 8th standard student fully understands the statement of Stephen R. Covey :
“The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule but to schedule your priorities.”
Should we be happy or sad?
